영어 패턴 문장 95개

영어로 작문을 하거나 혹은 스피치를 할 때 자주 응용되는 패턴 문장들을 정리해보았습니다. 물론 회화에도 도움이 되고요..

저는 늘 곁에 두고 활용합니다. 각자 나름대로 추가를 하여 자기만의 패턴 문장집을 만들어 보세요..

요리사에게 요리도구들이, 뮤지션들에게는 악기들이 중요한 것처럼

영어를 가지고 사역이나 사업을 하려는 분들에게는 자기만의 '비밀병기'를 장만하는 것이 매우 중요합니다.

1. 돈이 -- 가 든다. It costs...

It will cost about 10 billion won to construct this dam, but when it is completed, the power condition in Seoul will become much better.

 

2. --일까 궁금하다. I wonder of...

I wonder if he will be in time for the last train, for it was at 20 to eleven that he left here. I am afraid he may miss the train.

 

3. ...의 시간이 걸린다. It takes +시간(인원수)+ to do...

It takes at least about three days to go from San Francisco to New York even by express, but it takes only one day or one night to go by airplane.

 

4. ...이라고 한다. It is said that.../ is said to (have)...

The beasts are said to be afraid of fire. Therefore when men have to spend a night in the mountain, they make a fire to keep the animal away from them.

 

5. ...인 것 같다. seem to / seems to have / seemed to / seemed to have

He seems to be quite a well-informed person. one of his novels seems to have been a best seller several years ago, but now we can't find it even at a second-hand bookstore.

 

6. ...하는 편이 더 낫다...had better...

You are apt to have your own way in everything, but you had better listen to other people's advice at times.

 

7. ...이 ...한 것은 ...이다. It .... that...

It is delightful indeed that we have changes in the features of nature according to the changes of the seasons. If the weather were much the same all the year round, how monotonous nature would be.

 

8. ...하기가 쉽다...하는 경향이 있다. be apt to do... / be liable to / be prone to

All of us are apt to make much of those who are exclusively nice to us rather than those who are friendly to everybody.

 

9. ...가 ...함은 ...이다. It is...for...to do

It is most unusual(unlikely) for him to lose his way. He'll soon be back here.

 

10. ...할 수가 없다. There is no ... ing

The damage to the railway from the typhoon is great, so there is no knowing when this line will be reopened to traffic. To make the matter worse, we cannot avail ourselves of buses, as there are many broken parts on the road.

There is no denying that... 부정할 수 없는 것은....

 

11. ...할 가치가 있다. be worth...ing

The weeklies and monthlies published today are countless, but few of them are worth reading.

 

12. ...임은 말할 것도 없다. It goes without saying that.../ Needless to say,

It goes without saying that health is more precious than money, but many people do not realize this fact until they lose their health.

 

13. ...할 필요는 없다. need not do / do not have to do

Some people are so fortunate that they need not care about time and money at all, while many other people are poor enough to want the very necessaries of life.

 

14. ...너무 ...해서 ... 할 수 없다. too...to... / not...enough to..

He is too young to know much of the world. When he gets married and settles down he will become sensible.

 

15. ...은 바로 ... 이다. It is ... that...

It is a wirst watch which keeps good time that I need immediately. It was yesterday that I lost my wrist watch somewhere.

 

16. ...한지...가 된다. It is +(already) 시간 +since...

It is nearly a week since father started, saying, "As soon as I have arrived at Pusan, I will send a telegram to you," but I have heard nothing from him yet.

 

17. ...에게 ...하도록 시키다. have +사람 +동사원형 / get +사람+to do

I have my father correct my English composition. I think I shall be able to write an easy English letter at least in a year or so.

 

18. 무엇이라고...생각하는가? What(Who, Which, etc) do you think...?

What do you think we Koreans should do in order to maintain world peace? Do you know the short cut to world peace?

 

19. It is + 시간, 거리, 기후, 명암...

It is already ten to eight. You will not be in time for school if you go on foot.

 

20. ...하기만 하면 된다. have only to do/ if only... / all you have to do...

You have only to be patient and do your best to attain your object, but this is very difficult to put in practice. Many people are anxious for success without making due efforts.

 

21. 얼마큼...? How many(much, long, etc)...?

"How long is this iron bridge?" "It is over two kilometers long, and is said to be the second longest one in this country."

 

22. 아무리 ... 해도 지나칠 것은 없다. cannot...too... / be impossible to over do...

We cannot b e too careful in doing anything, for it is often through carelesness that we commit arrors.

 

23. 사진을 찍다. have(get) one's photograph taken

I bought this watch only two weeks age. But I cannot rely on it, as it loses. I want to get it mended. How much will it cost?

 

24. ...하기로 하고 있다. make it a rule to do

I make it a rule to come in touch with as many people as possible and talk with them, for this enriches my knowledge and develops my common sense.

 

25. ...일 리가 없다. cannot be

The rumor that he has died connot b e true, for when I visited him in hospital this morning, the doctor said he was out of danger.

 

26. ...임에 틀림 없다. must be / must have + pp

"He must be mad to use such a violent language (to use a foul language that way)." "No, he cannot be mad, I believe. He may be under some wrong impression."

 

27. ...하지 않으면 안되다. must(have to) do

If we want to realize the true worth of speech, we must make a thorough study of some foreign language in addition to our mother tongue.

 

28. 했어야만 했다. should (ought to) have + pp

You should have studied harder while a student. As you have learned English as ong as 6 years, you ought to know such easy words and phrases at least.

 

29. ...하곤 했다. used to do / would

Our teacher used to tell us that one should be bold enough to say (have enough confidence to say) what one believes. Now I have come to realize I I keenly feel) how important this is.

 

30. ...이라 해도 과언은 아니다. It is not too much to say that

Seeing that the range of application of atomic energy is widening boundlessly year after year, it my not be too much to say that this is an age of atomic energy.

 

31. ..하면 반드시 ...하다. never(cannot) ... without + ing

A typhoon never visits us without causing many casualties and doing serious damage to the crops. Even in these days when science has taken such rapid strides, it seems that there is no way to prevent it.

 

32. ...하지 않을 수 없다. cannot help ...ing / cannot but 동사원형

I lived in the country for nearly ten years, and I never looked at the mountains without being comforted however depressed I might feel. I could not help admiring how beautiful nature is.

 

33. ...하느니 차라리...한다. would rather...than...

My father always says that he would rather live in a house of Korean style with a garden though it is small that live in a modernized apartment house.

 

34. 만일...한다면...하겠는데. If---, should...

What would be left behind if love were taken away from human life? Of course nothing would be left just as the earth would be turned into a desert if its moisture were removed from it.

 

35. 혹시라도 ...하게 된다면. If...should...

Send a wire to me if you should be hard up for money while you are travelling and I'll send some money to you. You'll feel quited forlorn and helpless when you run short of money when you are far away from home.

 

36. 만일...이 아니었더라면. If it were not (had not been) for... / Without / But for...

Some people say Mr. Park could not have found a job in the company but for his teacher's letter of recommendation.

 

37. ...이면 좋으련만. I wish+가정법 과거

I wish a computer were cheaper. It is an article beyond my reach, for I have a monthly income of only 500,000 won or so.

 

38. 만일...했다면...했겠는데. If...had +pp, --should(would) have +pp

If I had been on board that ship, I should have gone down with her. To tell the truth, as my bus broke down on the way and I was not in time for the ship, I escaped death.

 

39. 마치 ... 이기나 한듯이. as if (as though) +가정법 과거형

It is our duty to give a seat old people in a car, but it is unpleasant to see those who act as if they had the right to be given a seat by other passengers.

 

40. ...할 예정이다. be to do / be scheduled to do

My father is to start for America on the 3rd of next month. It is expected that he will inspect factories there and return home via Europe.

 

41. ...처럼 ...한 것은 없다. Nothing...비교급 + than...

It has often been repeated from old times that nothing is pleasanter than travelling, and I think few people will oppose this opinion even today.;

 

42. 너무...해서...이다. so(too)...that...

When I saw that American for the first time, he spoke so fast that I could not understand what he said. I regret that I did not practice English conversation more seriously while young.

 

43. ...하자마자. as soon as.../ No sooner had I...than...

While I was studying at a school in Seoul, I made it a rule to go home as soon as the summer vacation becan. So I have never attended the Liberation ceremony.

 

44. ...이...하도록. that...may...

My mother got up at four in the morning and prepared breakfast for me that I might be in time for the first train.

 

45. ...하지 않도록 lest...should

I have brought an umbrella lest I should be cought in a shower on the way. But it has cleared up now.

 

46. ...하면 할수록 더욱...하다. the +비교급, the + 비교급

The longer I talk with him, the more attractive I find his personality. He is never fluent, but his way of talking is overflowing with the touch of humanity.

 

47. 지금까지...한 중에서 제일... 최상급 that...ever.../have never ... such a...as

This is the most difficult English book that I have ever read. It is a book of only 100 pages or so, but it took me more than two weeks to read it through.

 

48. ...해서 비로소 ...하다. not ... until / It is not until...that...

In my hurry I forgot to take my purse with me, but I was not aware of it till I reached the station. As a result I was not in time for the 8:35 train.

 

49. ...라기 보다는 ...이다. not so much ... as.../...rather than...

Your success in the examination lies not so much in how many books you have read as in how many of them you have understood. In short, careful reading is more important that anything else.

 

50. ...일뿐 아니라...도 또한. not only..., but (also)...

As television has been invented,, we can not only listen to those who broadcast music and plays, but can watch them over it.

 

51. ...만큼 ...하지는 않다. not so...as...

My father doesn't think that he can speak French so well as he used to when he was a schoolboy, and actually he has forgotten a great deal.

 

52. ...이라고 해서...은 아니다. not ... because...

There is no reason why you should become a merchant because your father is engaged in commerce.

 

53. 하물며...은 말할 것도 없다. much more (less)...

Even when we are going on only a few days' trip, we must make thoroughgoing preparations: much more when we are about to travel round the world. It will be one of the preparations to have the power of resistance to disease.

 

54. 과연...이다, 하지만... It is true...,. but...

It is true that Seoul is one of the big cities in the world, but it cannot be denied that it can stand no comparison with such a foreigh city as London or New York in many respects.

 

55. ...이든 ...이든(아니든) whether...or (or not)

It depends entirely upon your own efforts whether you will succeed in the entrance examination or not. It is the height of imprudence for you to rely on chances.

 

56. ...하는 한. as long as.../so long as...

If you pursue one thing with perseverance for a long time, all of you will be able to make progress to a certain degree without fail, so long as you are blessed with ordinary health and ability.

 

57. ...의 5배. five times as...as...

The area of the city where I live is not so large, but its population is about five times as large as that of the town where you live.

 

58. ...후에야 ... 하다. It is...before...

It will not be very long before man is able to travel to the moon, which he has looked upon as a world of his dream. But he will have to get over a great number of difficulties before he can realize this dream.

 

59. ...때문이 아니라... 때문이다.. not because..., but because...

It is said that these things do not sell not because their quality is bad, but because they are rather clear.

Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.

 

60. ...한 이유. the reason why...

I cannot help wondering why such a dishonest man enjoys the confidence of his master. Please tell me the reason by all means if you know it.

 

61. ...하게도...하다 enough to do

When I was at a loss which way to take, he was kind enoug to show me the right way.

 

62. A가 B보다 ... 하다. A is more...than B

Chejy Island is at least ten degrees warmer than Seoul. So flowering plants there are said to be in all their glory all the year round.

64. ...과 같은. the same...as...

65. ...도 아니고...도 아니다. neither...nor...

He is from Taegu. He has neither parents nor relatives to help him.

 

66. ...하는 사람도 있고, ...하는 사람도 있다. some..., others...

The train has just arrived at the station. Some are getting out and others are getting in, some have come to meet their friends and others to see them off; the railway station is a scene of hustle and bustle.

 

67. ...이 아니라...이다. not...but...

A good teacher should not give his pupils knowledge itself, but arouse in them a desire for knowledge.

 

68. ...해야 소용없다. It is no use +ing

It will be no use trying to persuade him, for once he has made up his mind, he will try to carry it out at any cost.

 

69. 반드시...은 아니다. not always...

Common sense is necessary to everyone and can be acquired by everybody, but its acquirement is not always easy.

 

70. 어김없이...하다. never fail to do / be sure to do / be certain to do

He is a great reader. He never fails to read books when he is free. He is indeed a bookworm.

 

71. 아무리...하더라도. however(whatever, etc)...may.../ No matter what...may...

However fast we may run, we shall not be in time for the 6:30 express. Let's walk slowly and take the next one.

 

72. A와 B의 관계는 C와 D의 관계와 같다. A is to B what C is to D

Books are to mankind what memory is to the individual.

 

73. ...하지 않는...은 없다. There is no ... that... not...

Nowadays the word "culture" is so popular that there is no newspaper or no magazine which does not say anything about culture.

 

74. 가능한 한. as + 형용사(부사) + as possible

You cannot read many books if you intend to read them when you have time to spare. It is necessary for you to make use of the time given to you as much as possible.

 

75. ...임에도 불구하고. in spite of / with all / notwithstanding / despite

In spite of many obstacles lying in the peaceful use of atomic energy, we should make positive preparations for an early realization of this aim in view of the future conditions of energy in our country.

 

76. ...하지 않는 한. unless... / so long as ...not... / without...

However learned you may be, you will not be able to get on well with your friends unless you get rid of this defect of yours.

 

77. ...할 때. the time when...

I think the day has gone when sports were regarded as mere pastimes and recreations. They are now a part of national culture.

There are times when I feel like eating RAMYUN so badly.

 

78. ...의 경우에 in case...

As I have an important matter to talk about with you, I should like to call on you tomorrow. But don't expect me in case of rain.

 

79. ... 때문에. owing to / because of / on account of / due to / on the ground of

Probably owing to low temperature of this year, swallows came to be seen here only a few days ago.

 

80. ...한 곳 the place where...

He spent the greater part of his life abroad, where he became famous but he did not forget his own country even for a moment while he lived.

Isn't it very kind of her to offer her seat in the crowded bus to that old woman!

 

82. ...한 관점에서 보면. from the ...point of view

From the geographical viewpoint, that mountain is insignificant wild one, but from the standpoint of history, it is a very valuable mountain.

 

83. 어찌할 바를 몰라(당황해서) at a loss

I had to walk in the rain. I was at a loss and looking up the sky, when I heard some one call to me.

 

84. ...의 5분의 1. one-fifth of...

A fire broke out in a small factory in the town, and it spread in every direction in an instant. When it was put out, one-fifth of the town had been reduced to ashes.

 

85. ...하는 것, what(관계대명사)

I owe you what I am today. But for (=without) your help, I should not be what I am today.

 

86. ...하는 것을 나쁘게 생각하다. think it wrong to...

In advanced countries, they take it for granted that they should be punctual, but in our country, to our regret, there are many people who make light of being late for appointment.

 

87. ...하는 법. how to do

Those who have their own cars have markedly increased in number, but it is a fact that few of them know how to drive their own cars.

 

88. ...하기가 무섭게 ...했다. hardly...when (before)...

Hardly had the famous singer appeared on the stage before his fans received him with a clapping of hands.

 

89. 불행하게도... Unfortunately, ....

It is likely that he gains a crucial position in accomplishing the goal.

 

95. 아무리 할지라도 however, wherever, no matter how..

I don't care no matter how far it is.
